The first days of October i found myself in Italy and especially in the north-east part. I was invited by Moroso for a factory visit together with other Architects and Designers. (you can see my post about the factory visit here). Moroso had organised for us a really nice surprise for this lovely Friday afternoon. Wine tasting at Castello di Spessa Resort!
Many families alternated in the Spessa property over the years and since 1987, the Pali family bought the castle together with the vineyards and now it’s a wine resort that can also host weddings, baptisms, parties etc.
This 12 century castle provides astonishing panoramic views of the vineyards in Capriva Del Friuli. I was enchanted by the picturesque surroundings, the beautiful courtyard and of course the refined elegance of the castle!
The castle was used especially as a summer residence and amongst its famous guests, was the famous writer (and seducer), Giacomo Casanova who stayed in 1773, hosted by count Della Torre. Casanova wrote in his Memories “(the earl’s estate mainly consisted in his vineyards which produced an excellent white wine and yielded about a thousand sequins a year”)
So we started the tour by visiting the wine cellars and tasted the famous DOC Collio and DOC Friuli Isonzo wines which were so tasteful -I must have had 4 glasses of wine and I don’t drink that much ever-
It was a wonderful sunny day and the wine tasting continued on the courtyard overlooking the outstanding gardens. We sat there and soaked it all in.
I need more days like this in my life ❣️
