A day in Mayfield Lavender Farm

A day in Mayfield Lavender Farm

A day in Mayfield Lavender Farm.

It’s all over social media. Every year about this time. This perfect purple colour that inundates the Instagram feeds with images of lavender farms. It captivated me. And I wanted to visit it. Only that the perfect season to visit is within such a short period. Mid of July to early August. That’s the time where you can see the lavenders in full bloom. It’s the peak season and it attracts many visitors.

How we got there

We visited Mayfield Lavender farm around mid of July, It’s about 25 kilometres south of London. I and my friend Iphy, took the train from Blackfriars to Purley and then the 166 bus to the gate of Mayfield Lavender Farm.

The whole journey lasted 1 hour until we reached this purple paradise.

It was the peak flower time, a field full of purple lavender, a true pleasure for the eyes.

Lavender Farm

At the entrance, there is a lavender shop selling fresh lavender, lavender sachets, loose lavender, lavender essential oils plant varieties etc. Right next to it, there is an al-fresco café selling (among others) lavender flavoured products such as lavender tea, cupcakes and frappuccino.

I got the lavender Frappuccino, (iced coffee with double cream and dried lavender on top), and sat at the picnic tables that were around the café.

The field is in an excellent condition as it is being taken care of constantly, and we could wander around the 25 acres of lavender on our free will. The scene is so beautiful to the eye, that I couldn’t get enough!

The most crowded part is in the front of the field, while as we were walking away from the entrance, the place became less packed, hence more to ourselves.

We also met the mascot of the field, Joey a very cute and friendly dog  ♥

Useful information

It is not permitted to pick lavender from the field, this way it remains beautiful to everyone. But if you wish to buy fresh lavender, the shop at the entrance sells freshly cut lavender.

Peak season is mid-July to early August. It’s when lavenders are in full bloom and the perfect time to visit. However, keep in mind that is can be very crowded especially during weekends. The best time to visit, is early in the morning.
