Jurassic Coast Trip

Jurassic Coast Trip by The Athenian Girl

Jurassic Coast Trip.

I was waiting for this trip for so long that I can’t even describe my happiness when I finally booked the tickets! I was expecting the perfect weather conditions in order to visit the Jurassic Coast.

That’s not an easy task here in England, but this Summer, the weather is warm and sunny everyday  for more than a month now!  Even though I am so thankful for this beautiful weather, I am still not sure for how long it will last. So. when on a Friday morning I checked that the temperature would reach 31 degrees the next day, I knew exactly where I wanted to be! And I had to act fast as there were limited tickets left. Since I don’t own a car, I booked “The Jurassic Coast Experience” from Discover Dorset Tours. Nothing was departing from London, and this one was the best choice, departing from Bournemouth in the morning.

So I woke up at 4:30 in the morning after a 3 hours sleep, in order to get ready and go to Waterloo Station. The  train was departing at 5:30am, The next stop would be Bournemouth, after 2 hours and 20 minutes.

The coach arrived at Bournemouth Station at 8:20 in the morning and all I was thinking was to take a little nap. I was feeling exhausted already! I was so nervous that I would miss the train or the coach that I couldn’t wait for the moment to finally be in my seat, in the coach and sleep for a while. But I slept for about 10 minutes since my excitement was even bigger than losing the view on the outside and especially the amazing weather!

We were about to visit some of the most beautiful parts of the 200,000,000 years old Jurrasic Coast World Heritage Site! Jurassic Coast, stretches from Exmouth in East Devon to Studland Bay in Dorset, and the distance is nearly 100 miles along the English channelIn this trip we will visit the isle of Purbeck which is part of the Jurassic Coast and offers some of the most famous sites.

The first stop in the isle of Purbeck, was at Swanage  where we visited the Durlston Castle and the Great Globe. One of the largest stone sphere in the world, made entirely of Portland stone.

The sea view was also breathtaking!

The second stop, was at Corfe Castle village. “Corfe” in old English means gap. Corfe Castle was built on a steep hill in a gap and that’s why it makes it so special.

I fell in love with the village around Corfe Castle! The landscape, the houses. the cute narrow streets.. everything was  picturesque!

The whole village is built with the local Purbeck limestone

Even though I didn’t have time to visit the castle, I visited the Model Village which was too cute to be true! The entrance is through the Courtyard Café on East Street and it depicts the village and the castle at 1:20 scale as it was in 1646 -just before Corfe Castle was destroyed during the Civil War. Surrounded by the traditional Dorset Garden this place was pure paradise!

I also had coffee and cake in this charming coffee shop. It’s called Love Cake Too. It has great atmosphere and the people working here are very friendly!

I took some pictures overlooking the Corfe Castle in this beautiful weather ☀️

It took us around 30 minutes to drive to the famous Durdle Door beach and Lulworth Cove. The parking was just 30 minutes walk from the Durdle Door beach. The place was already looking… exotic!

Durdle Door, a coastal landmark, is a majestic arch of natural limestone. I started going down and for every step that I was making, the view was becoming better and better!

Durdle Door beach and Man o War beach are so close to each other! My only concern was that time was against me! I wanted to visit Man o War but I had to chose one of them.

The coast was full of tourists, having fun, swimming and playing games. All of a sudden I felt I was somewhere in Mediterranean. But no! I was still in England. In an exotic place that I fell in love! The water was crystal clear and the sand was fine!

I stayed at the Durdle Door Beach for about half an hour. I couldn’t visit Man o War beach – which by the way I found it more beautiful than Durdle Door.  We had to visit our final destination, Lulworth Cove. It takes 40-45 minutes walk to reach this beautiful seaside touristic village. While walking to Lulworth Cove, the view was stunning.

First thing i did? Gelato! I tried gingerbread taste and it’s THE best taste I have ever had! I also loved the small road with picturesque shops, that leads to the beach.

Especially The Dolls House:

Lulworth Cove beach, a horse shoe shaped cove, is a beautiful pebble beach with clear water as well! I stayed there for about an hour.

…I wish I could stay much longer… ♥

Until next time ♥
